Complete Xbox 360 Grand Theft Auto IV guide to shoot 1 - 74 of the Flying Rats in GTA IV
There are 200 pigeons (flying rats) in the game. You need to find and shoot them as part of getting 100% completion.
Below, you’ll find all of their locations documented. In general, it’s best to start where I’m starting, at the south tip of Broker, and follow my instructions as you work your way around from location to location.
Please note, I refer to many street names here. You can see what stree you’re on by hitting “Down” on the D-Pad.
Broker
Broker is the south half of the east-most island. This is where you start the game.
1) Under the pier, on the beach, near the water’s edge.
2) At the base of the Liberty Eye, the huge ferris wheel. Climb atop the candy stand, “Craig’s Candys,” in front of it, and then jump to the platform which will put you at the base of the ferris wheel.
3) On the arch sign that reads, “Fantastic Firefly Island”. From where the pier connects to the road, just a tad west, before the road curves north. The arch sign is actually three connected arches near a pagoda overlooking the beach. The pigeon is on the right side of the arch.
4) On west side of island, still on the south end of it, just north of #3. There is a small pier sticking out into the water. On one of the pylons of that pier. Another helpful hint, where Bart St. deadends, head west onto the walkway near the water. The pier is off of that walkway.
5) On top of the roller coaster, on a railing, at its peak, above the “Screamer” sign. To get up there, just walk along the tracks of the coaster until you get to the top. It’s tedious.
6) Just north of #5, in the back alley of the apt. buildings near Cody St. and Onondaga Ave. Go into the back alley area and you’ll see a small park with benches and trees. The pigeon is above a doorway in that area.
7) On east side of island, still on the south end of it, in the Firefly Projects. It’s on a railing of a walkway. Locate the basketball courts on Onandaga Ave. Head to the other side of the apartment building near those b-ball courts, staying on the walkways. You’ll see the pigeon on a corner of a railing.
On SE of island, in residential area. On the back porch of the house on the corner of Shinnecock Ave. and Ketchum St.
9) On SE of island, there is a “U”-shaped highway overpass. On that overpass, on the concrete divider.
10) On a brick wall, near a broken section of that brick wall, on the corner of James St. and Ringo St., under the train tracks.
11) North of #10, locate the brownstones on the corner of Dukes Expressway and Hickock St. There is a back alley among the brownstones. Above one of the garages is a patio with a wrought iron fence. The pigeon is on that patio. Climb up to it.
12) In the park, west of #11. It’s on the railing of the pagoda, which is the small circle within the park on your map.
13) Just SW of #12, on the awning of Perestroika (cabaret club).
14) West, and a tad north of #13. On top of the “Broker Navy Yard” sign/gate. The best way to get it is to climb the crane down in the navy yard. Once you’re at the top of it, aim back down at the top of the sign. It’s hard to see without a gun that you can zoom in, but it’s on the right side of the sign (from this angle…the left of the sign if you were facing the writing on the sign).
15) On an AC unit on the back side of the “Builders Supplies” building, just north of #14. If you go under the “Broker Navy Yard” sign, and down that road (Mohanet Ave.), keep your eye on the left until you see the “Builders Supplies” sign on the warehouse. The pigeon is on an AC unit, second story, on the back side of this building.
16) In the back alley behind Brucie’s place (the “B” on the map), on the corner of Mohanet Ave. and Chicory St., north of #15.
17) On top of the bus stop, the glass-covered bus stop, on Montauk Ave., just north of the large arch (east of #16).
18) Look for the “Swallow My Pride” lion sign atop a Jamacian restuarant on the corner of Conoy Ave. and Sundance St. (it’s pretty much under the Schottler train station). Once you find that restaurant, the pigeon is on the Sundance St. side of it, sitting atop a concrete stair railing. This is east of #17.
19) Locate the Burger Shot on the corner of Mohegan Ave. and Pancho St. (east side of map). Near the Burger Shot there is a small dead end construction area. The pigeon is sitting in this little construction area. This is NE of #18.
20) Locate the Grocery Store on the corner of Wenrohronon Ave. and Cassidy St., west of #19. On Wenrohronon Ave., two buildings north of the Grocery Store, you’ll find the pigeon on the second story fire escape on the front of the building.
21) On Cassidy St., west of #20, on the front porch (stoop/stairs) of one of the brownstones. The nearest cross street is Seneca Ave.
22) On the corner of Montauk Ave. and Algonquin - Dukes Expressway on-ramp, a few streets NW of #21, the pigeon is under the highway overpass, sitting on a steel beam. You need to get under the overpass, and look up to see it.
Dukes
Dukes is the north half of the island on which you started.
23) On the corner of Creek St. and Chicory St., NW of #22 at the curve in the road on the map, you’ll find a small diner. Across the street from the diner is a large wall. The pigeon is low on the wall, across from the diner.
24) In the area of Huntington St. and Dukes Blvd. in Cerveza Heights there is access to a back alley area where you’ll find a basketball court. The pigeon is on top of one of the backboards of the basketball court. This is east of #23.
25) East of #24, at the Huntington St. train station (elevated train station). Go up the stairs to the middle level, not the top level. Go to the north side of the tracks and locate the three ticket terminals on the left. The pigeon is above the ticket terminals, on the roof of the stairs leading up to where you are.
26) This is difficult. The pigeon is on the roof of the building to the north of the Lynch St. train station in Meadow Hills. The building itself is on the corner of Stillwater Ave. and Ellery St. To get up to the building’s roof, go up to the Lynch St. train station and head to the west side of it. Face north and locate the “Lynch Street” sign on the low brick wall between two benches. Use the bench on the left to get up onto the low wall. From the wall, jump up to the roof (make sure you have no weapons equipped so you can grab on). Once you’re on this train station roof, you can walk along the roof which connects to the building you want to get to (you’ll have to jump up the steep parts of the roof). Once you’re on the building’s roof, locate the pigeon in a roof-access doorway. This is east of #25.
27) Locate the “Car Wash” icon on the east side of the map, west of Francis Airport. On Saratoga Ave., just north of the “Car Wash and Lube”, you’ll find the pigeon roosting under the elevated train tracks (north side of train tracks).
28) At Francis International Airport. Under the “Welcome to Francis International Airport” there are two toll booths. To the right of the toll booths, on a pylon, you’ll find the pigeon. This is just west (across the road) from the main terminal.
29) At Francis International Airport. The main terminal has two circular decorative openings. Facing the building, the pigeon is inside the right side circular opening. If you have a molotov cocktail and/or a grenade, just chuck it in there. Otherwise, get an angle on the opening from the elevated train tracks and shoot into it.
30) At Francis International Airport. Atop the control tower. It’s actually on the railing of the highest section of the control tower. You’ll need the sniper rifle to see it. I recommend that you approach it from the west so that you’re about halfway between it and the terminal. In so doing, you’ll instantly get a 4 star wanted level. Stop your car, hop out, and use the sniper rifle (zoom in) to see the pigeon sitting on the railing, dead center of the tower, if you’re facing it from the west.
31) On the roof of the northern-most flyUS building at Francis International Airport. To get to it, get up onto the train tracks via the staircase which you can find in the northern section of the parking lot (they’re inside a narrow building). Once on the tracks, head NW on them until you see the far end of the flyUS building which extends under the tracks. Drop down to the building and head right (east) until you see two large, roof-top AC units. The pigeon is between them.
32) On the corner of Carrollton St. and Cleves Ave. in Willis, locate the red brick apt. building. You’ll find the pigeon above the green awning. This location is north of #27.
33) NE of #32, on the line between Willis and Francis International Airport, on Tudor St., there is a park-like area with lots of trees and grass. In that park there is an odd, out-of-place concrete structure. The pigeon is sitting on the concrete railing of that concrete structure.
34) Locate the gray circle on the map at the north of the island. This is the skeleton of a massive circus tent. Go inside the circle/ring by pushing open any of the doors that you see (they look like garage doors). Once inside the ring, locate the pigeon on the south end of the ring, near some doors.
35) South of #34 you’ll find Meadows Park, home of the Monoglobe (the huge metal globe among the fountains). Just north of the globe you can find the pigeon at the base of a water sprite statue.
36) Just west of the Monoglobe, on the corner of Charleston Ave. and San Jacinto Ave., you’ll see some houses. Use the back porch stairs to get to the fire escape stairs an then make your way up onto the roof. The pigeon is on the chimney of the southern-most house.
37) North of #36, on the corner of San Jacinto Ave. and Bunker Hill Ave. Can’t get until I get a helicopter or grenades.
38) Just west of #37, south of the “Darts” icon on the map. The pigeon is on a fence in the back alleys.
39) Just north of the “Darts” icon. The pigeon is sitting in a tree on the corner of Morris St. and Yorktown Ave.
40) One block east of #39, climb the train station stairs. Once on the upper platform, locate the pigeon roosting under the roof of the platform. The stairs leading up are on the corner of Morris St. and Brandon Ave.
41) One block north of #40, under the stunt ramp on the corner of Brandon Ave.
42) On the north side of the map, off of Dukes Drive, you’ll see a parking lot for Gantry Park. At the entrance to the parking lot, on the stone wall.
43) On the north side of the map, off of Dukes Drive, you’ll see a parking lot for Gantry Park. At the entrance to the parking lot, at the base of a tree, right next to #42.
44) West of #42 and #43, in the park, on the playground equipment, specifically on the monkey bars.
45) At the “T” intersection of Tinconderoga Ave. and Franklin St., on some rocks just north of the the street.
46) In the NW of the map, off of Dukes St., you’ll find a graveyard. The pigeon is sitting atop the roof of one of the small mausoleums (small house), which is farther down, closer to the water.
47) In the NW of the map, between Franklin St. and Concord Ave., there is a public park with a public swimming pool. The pigeon is at the top of the high-dive platform of the public swimming pool. This is south of #46.
48) South of #47, there is a pedestrian tunnel that connects Dukes Park with Steinway Park. The pedestrian tunnel goes underneath Franklin St. The pigeon is inside the tunnel.
49) About half way across the East Borough Bridge, sitting next to one of the tower columns on the south side of the bridge.
50) Under Dukes Bay Bridge, on one of the pilings. It’s about 1/3 of the way along the bridge, if looking North. To get it, either grab a boat and sail out to the piling or, if you can find something to stand on in the water (I found a capsized boat), use a sniper rifle to pick it off.
Bohan
Bohan is the northern-most and smallest island in the game, directly north of the Broker/Dukes island.
51) On the east side of the island, sitting on some rocks at the water’s edge.
52) Sitting on a drain pipe, in the back alley, between Planche St. and Flanger St., east side of map.
53) SE of map, due south of #52, sitting atop a street lamp that is connected to a building, on Leavenworth Ave.
54) West of #54, off of Guantanamo Ave., across from the Burger Shot are some docks. The pigeon is sitting in the window of the boat on the docks.
55) On top of the “Menala Metal” building, on the corner of Jackhammer St. and Lampoc Ave. It’s the large red brick building, just NW of #54. On the west side of the building you’ll find some stairs leading to a ladder. Go up and then take the next stairs and ladder. You’ll see a third set of stairs…don’t go up. Instead, head right on the roof to find pigeon on the edge.
56) On Caterpillar St., in the middle of the cul-de-sac. It’s NE of #55.
57) On Grand Blvd., heading east, before it turns into Northern Expressway (the road goes downhill) go to the south side of the road and locate the stone wall. Walk along it, heading east, to the roof of a small brick building where you’ll find the pigeon. This is NW of #56.
58) On Valdez St. you’ll find a nice sidewalk/esplanade. The pigeon is sitting atop one of the ornate brick sections of the brick wall. This is just a tad SW of #57.
59) On the esplanade of Grand Blvd. It’s on the left side of the gate of building 1665 (you’ll see a large “1665″ printed on an awning). This is west of #58.
60) On the north side of the map, walk along the sidewalk on the north side of Valdez St. The pigeon is just over the brick wall lining the sidewalk, perched on a section of wall that sticks out (you’ll be overlooking a park walkway below). This is north of #59.
61) At the “T” intersection of Mill St. and Drop St. you’ll find access to a back alley. The pigeon is on a chainlink fence in that back alley. This is SW of #60.
62) Just south of #61, on the south side of Drop. St., you’ll see a construction zone underneath the elevated train tracks. The pigeon is inside one of the wooden fenced-in areas.
63) In the empty lot on Wallkill Ave. (cross street is Hollowback St.), on the steel I-beam of a broken wall.
64) In the empty lot on Wallkill Ave. (cross street is Hollowback St.), just below #63, on part of the same broken wall.
65) On the corner of Joliet St. and Switch St. you’ll see a store, “Cleaners”. On the Joliet St. side, there are two pigeons, side-by-side, atop the left side of the building. This is just east of #63/64.
66) See #65.
67) On Spin St. (cross street is Guantanamo Ave.), just south of the street is a brick building with a doorway. The pigeon is perched on the railing of that doorway. This is to the east of your safehouse.
68) Locate Rocket St., the street the deadends in the south of Bohan. As you head south on it, keep your eye on the left for a set of stairs leading down to the water (well, the walkway along the water). On the concrete wall of the stairs you’ll find the pigeon.
69) From #68, continue along the walkway to the west. You’ll pass under the East Borough Bridge and will soon see a construction site. The pigeon is inside one of the large concrete sections of pipe.
70) From #69, continue along the water’s edge, heading west and then north. You’ll soon see a series of large rocks extending into the water. You’ll also see a small wooden dock leading down to the water. From the top of this wooden dock, use a weapon that you can zoom with, and aim at the top of the farthest rock to see the pigeon upon it.
71) On the far north of the map you’ll find a large concrete area that borders the water. On the west side of this area, the pigeon can be found on top of a concrete barrier, south of the two long piers that stick out to the north.
72) East of #71, underneath the dock.
Charge Island
Charge Island is between Broker and Algonquin. The East Borough Bridge runs over it.
73) NW of Charge Island, locate the shipping containers and the four large metal silos. Just west of the silos are a row boat and a sail boat (no sail). The pigeon is on one of the sail boat.
74) Under the East Borough Bridge, on the south side of Charge Island, you’ll see a vertical line of five huge circular oil storage tanks (see these on the map). Between the bottom two and the upper three, there is a parking lot. The pigeon is in the parking lot.
